The COVID-19 global health emergency and its economic and social impacts have disrupted nearly all aspects of life for all groups in society. People of different ages, however, are experiencing and dealing with its effects in different ways.
The fact of the matter is that the youth have, in a lot of cases, taken on a somewhat carefree attitude towards the virus and their risk of exposure.
Although those in the older age bracket are more likely to fall victim to the virus, and suffer severe effects from it, younger people are not immune to it, and they need to be vigilant with their behaviour and acknowledge the very real danger of contracting and spreading it.
The scary reality is that everyone is at risk and precautions need to be taken by all, regardless of age.
From breathlessness to chest pains and severe sinus headaches, the youth of our country are just as much at risk of not only contracting the virus, but also suffering extreme symptoms or even worse.
The COVID-19 virus is unpredictable, and does not discriminate against age, race, creed or how deep one’s pockets are.
Whilst doctors are encouraged by the fact that the young people are more likely to recover from the virus without any major complications, they are obviously not able to guarantee this, nor are they able to determine whether there could be any long-term damage from some of the more serious symptoms.
Young people need to be aware and remain committed in their part to stop the spread of the virus.
