Family Law Attorney

Location: Cape Town CBD On-site

Requirements

  • A law degree with three to five years of experience in family and divorce law
  • Proven experience in a law firm, incorporating legal research and investigative skills
  • Strong background in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex legal documents related to family law matters
  • A track record of successful legal representation and case management
  • Experience conducting thorough legal research on complex family law issues
  • Demonstrated ability to represent clients in legal proceedings, including divorce settlements, child custody cases, and financial disputes
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work within a team and support clients through sensitive legal challenges
  • Strong organisational skills for managing legal records, case files, and documentation
  • In-depth knowledge of family law regulations, divorce laws, and legal precedents
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, including divorce agreements, custody arrangements, and settlement agreements
  • Provide strategic legal guidance to clients navigating divorce, maintenance claims, child custody, and asset division
  • Conduct thorough legal research to support case preparation and decision-making
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, mediation, and settlement negotiations
  • Implement and oversee legal policies and compliance procedures relevant to family law
  • Monitor and interpret new laws and regulations, advising clients on their potential impact
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide proactive legal solutions
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to junior attorneys and legal staff
  • Respond to legal inquiries from clients and internal teams in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on family law-related matters
  • Manage and organise legal records, case files, and documentation
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and legal education activities
 

Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience.

Legal Secretary

Location: Cape Town CBD On-site

Requirements

  • Paralegal certification, a degree in paralegal studies, or a related qualification
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in a legal environment
  • Proficiency in legal research, investigative work, and computer applications
  • In-depth knowledge of legal terminology, principles, research methodologies, court pleadings, and legal processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work efficiently under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills
  • Capacity to operate effectively in a high-paced and sometimes demanding environment
  • Ability to work independently, exercising discretion and sound judgment
  • Exceptional organisational skills, keen attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication abilities
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and assist with the execution of legal agreements
  • Manage and maintain a database of legal documentation and company legal activities
  • Provide administrative and research support to the legal team
  • Conduct legal research on various matters as required
  • Assist general counsel with corporate governance and compliance matters
  • Contribute to legal projects aimed at improving efficiency and transparency within the department and for internal clients
  • Assist with special projects as assigned
