COP CONVICTED FOR KWAZULU-NATAL WEDDING MURDER

Cop convicted for kzn wedding murder

Wedding ceremonies are meant to be a celebration of two people coming together to formalise their relationship through the exchange of vows, but a wedding in KwaZulu-Natal in December 2018 turned violent when two men were killed and two wounded by Constable Lindani Ngobese, who has been convicted to 33 years’ imprisonment.

Ngobese was a member of the elite SAPS National Intervention Unit at the time, and reportedly opened fire with his service pistol after an argument had broken out between him and a group of men whilst they were all in attendance at the wedding.

Ngobese had turned himself in, and had pleaded that he had acted in self-defence.

The Director of Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the sentencing. It remains to be seen whether Ngobese will be pursuing any appeal of this decision.
